Hawk Durham

I first met Hawk Durham over 20 years ago in Regina, Saskatchewan when he was training with Hiroaki Izumi, who was a good friend of Sosa Sensei and subquently my good friend.  We met a few times after that at the Chicago Aikikai and always loved training with each other.  We are definitely kindred spirits.  Hawk and I reconnected at the Bridge seminar in 2018.  I was amazed at how we still had our connection and friendship. Hawk has a unique way of explaining principles I talk about all the time.  See if you can see where his and my technique overlap but with a different lexicon for explanation. -Sensei Ellefson

This was the one ill-fated attempt we made at recording a zoom video… its rough but fun- thought you guys might enjoy!

Don Angier was an amazing martial artist and Soke of Shidare Yanagi Ryu which has tight ties with Aikido and Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu.  In fact, Angier's Sensei (Kenji Yoshida) introduced Morihei Ueshiba to Sokaku Takeda.  Angier was a acquaintance of Sosa Sensei also. When we get back on the mats, I have some interesting stories regarding Angier Sensei.
